Frequently Asked Questions

I’m brand new to yoga. What do I need to know?
Just dress for heat (tank top, shorts or yoga pants), bring some water (we've got it, if you forgot), a mat and towel. Bring a wide-open mind, and a sense of humor. Most of our classes are heated to a sweaty 88-92 degrees.  If it seems more your style, you can start with Warm Flow classes - same flow, lots of modifications and less heat.

But I’m not very flexible…
You don’t need to be flexible or anything else society says about yoga. You are perfect, whole and complete just as you are. You are wide-open welcome at any class.

OK, so I’m ready to come to my first class…
Let us know it's your first. Our classes move pretty fast and no one expects you to know all of the poses or reach your toes. If you like, ask us lots of questions before and after - we are yoga geeks and love to talk about it. You will never be judged for how your yoga practice looks-EVER. Welcome - we hope you will make salt your home.

What do I need to bring?
Dress for heat and sweat, and bring your favorite water bottle. A yoga mat and towel are a must! You can leave your gear in one of our cubbies and kick off your shoes and socks. Please make yourself at home.

Oh, and one more thing if you are new to salt…
Show up 10-15 minutes before class so that we can get you put into our computer system and have you fill out our waiver. After that, we will show you around and get you all set up in the studio.

Why is it called salt?
Nope, no salt on the floor, we don't roll in it, and we don't sprinkle it on you (we love all the things we hear!). Think "salt of the earth": simple community with no hierarchy and an almost strict code of non-gossip. We just don't need any more judgment in our lives! We also love the Isak Dinesen quote, "The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea." We definitely sweat in this space, sometimes we cry, and the rhythm of our breath rocks us like ocean waves.

What type of yoga is taught at salt?
We teach a powerful, breath-based, vinyasa flow. Each teacher brings their own personality and flavor to classes, but the rhythm of class remains the same. Breathe in. Breathe out. Mindful, meditative movement.

I’m pregnant, can I still practice?
Please check in with your doctor to confirm that it is OK for you to practice heated, power yoga. We have teachers who have practiced through one, two and even three pregnancies, but everyone and every pregnancy are different. Please alert the instructor that you are pregnant, even if it’s early in the first trimester. Also, we have several non-heated, warm-flow class options each week, as well as often offer non-heated prenatal yoga classes listed under events and workshops.

Do you assist with poses or correct students if they are doing it wrong?
If we see something that looks potentially unsafe-think, twisting a knee or ankle-we will tell you. We do not assist to deepen or correct poses. We have all been “adjusted” in in an effort to correct or deepen in a yoga class and it just doesn’t feel good to us. We will, however, give you a little love-think a shoulder rub in half pigeon or a foot massage in final rest. If you prefer to not be assisted, just let us know! This is YOUR yoga practice and we want you to be as comfortable as possible.

Do you have a lost and found?
We do! At both studios we have a bin where we collect the left behind clothes, water bottles, mats, towels, etc. Next time you visit, just come and check for any item you may have forgotten.

How do I sign up for charity classes?
You can sign up and pay ahead of time online, however, the studio usually fills up early so get there early to set your mat down.

Some studio etiquette:
At salt, we try to be as ‘flexible’ as we possibly can to meet all of your human yogi needs. However, we have found that in some instances, we have to take a tighter stance - for the good of all salties!

*Studio doors open 15 minutes before class and are locked at the start time of class.
We apologize for the inconvenience, as we know ‘life and traffic happens,’ but for security and staffing reasons, we do not allow students into class late.  Thank you for your understanding!

*Please leave your phones on silent and in the lobby.
Our priority is to give all students the space to detach, move and breathe. It’s undeniably more difficult to do if a phone is within eyesight.  We understand that for specific personal reasons, a phone in class might be a necessity. In these few instances, please keep your phone on silent and tucked under the edge of your mat. A heads up to the teacher is always appreciated as well!

*On very rare occasions, such as inclement weather, staff emergencies or other studio-related reasons, we will need to cancel class.
As you can tell by our schedule, we want you to be able to yoga morning, noon and night!  There are very infrequent instances however, where we will have to make an executive decision to cancel a class.  We will ALWAYS alert you via text/email when this decision is made. Your class pass will be returned.  We appreciate your understanding, and will make every attempt to update our schedule and you at least an hour before class start time.

*Our privacy policy:
All of your information is kept confidential in MindBody-our online scheduling system. We will never sell your information to anyone for any reason.
